The rubric is separated into three major categories (Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced) and each major category is further divided into two grades for a total of six.General Descriptions of each division are as follows:
Elementary
I – Music for beginning students in the first year of clarinet study
II – Music ideal for second third year clarinet students
Intermediate
III – Music for clarinet students of intermediate level (middle/junior high students)
IV – Music appropriate for clarinet students nearing advanced level (high school/young college)
Advanced
V – A significant musical work that requires a high level of technical and musical capacity
VI – Very challenging music that can pose challenges to even seasoned musicians/ensembles
