Annotation: Perhaps the most well-known and performed work for clarinet quartet, the Uhl Divertimento is a joy to listen to and to perform. Each part poses its challenges and each player has exposed or solo passages, including the bass clarinet. Harmonically and melodically the work is highly chromatic, making it harder, but really interesting to the ear. One of the most challenging aspects of the piece is the intonation. There are exposed passages in unison and octaves that are difficult to tune and will require players to be comfortable with their instrument’s tendencies so that they may better listen and adjust.
