 +**Annotation** : Composed in four movements, this relatively unknown quartet by Walter Hartley is 
 +approachable by most young ensembles. The range of the work rarely enters the altissimo 
 +register, and when it does, it happens primarily in the first clarinet part. The work does not use 
 +key signatures, so all accidentals are written in. The tempo markings for the work are unclear. 
 +The first movement for example is in six-eight and nine-eight time, but the tempo marking 
 +indicates the tempo should be quarter note equals 160. It is unclear if this is what the composer 
 +intended or if it is an editor error.
