Annotation : Similar to his works for clarinet trio, these grand duo utilizes common classical forms and style. The melodic writing is equal between the two parts. This particular duo, No. 1, is in three movements, and uses the fast-slow-fast movement structure often found in concerti of this period. The range used in the work extends to F4 in both parts. Of particular difficulty in this duo, and most works of the classical period, is the articulation and phrase matching.
